  • Description:

    On September 10, an Interagency Hotshot Crew (IHC) assigned to the Anvil Fire on the Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest near Sixes, Oregon experienced an Incident Within an Incident (IWI) when a sawyer’s hand came into contact with the running chainsaw they were operating. At the time of the incident, the IHC was engaged in indirect line construction on a steep slope with thick, tall brush and difficult footing. The sawyer received onsite care before being transported by cooperator ambulance to a local hospital. Due to the severity of the injuries, emergency surgery was required the following day.
