Copper Point Fire Smokejumping Accident 2022

    A smokejumper was injured upon landing at the jump spot for the Copper Point Fire, Idaho Panhandle National Forest. Initial reports indicated the jumper was experiencing severe back pain and hoist capable extraction was requested. An agency short haul ship was immediately dispatched to the incident. The patient was short hauled to FS guard station location, then transferred to a LifeFlight helicopter, which delivered them to the hospital. The jumper was diagnosed with mild T4 and T5 compression fractures and is expected to be released from the hospital with a brace on 9/5/22.
