National Forests in Florida, Apalachicola Ranger District.
A BFX 643P Type 6 Engine assigned to the Apalachicola National Forest discovered melted hose reel wiring during routine Preventative Maintenance Checks and Service (PMCS). It was determined that the back of the hose reel control switch was open to the elements. Moisture between the exposed contacts created a low amperage pull that gradually melted the wiring on the hose reel. A fuse holder and 15-amp fuse were installed to prevent any further damage to the hose reel or other wiring.
