  • Description:

    On April 7, 2022, with snow on the ground, resources lit 25 acres of slash piles in a recent timber sale on the Dixie National Forest, Utah. On May 9, high winds pushed embers from the still smoldering piles across the unit boundary and the Left Fork Prescribed Fire was soon declared a wildfire. It was determined that the pile burn had crept around within the burn unit until igniting heavy fuels, lofting embers into the now snow-free receptive fuels, adjacent to the burn unit.
