Description:
A fire lookout was as assisting other firefighters in clearing trees that had fallen during the severe thunderstorm/wind event that impacted Region 1 on 7/24/24. As firefighters worked to open a trail, the lookout was helping roll a cut round, when the cut tree slid and pinched her hand between the round and the cut end. Trained Forest Service personnel provided medical support, and mobilized a USFS-contracted helicopter for the medevac. Once at the hospital, the firefighter was admitted for continued monitoring due to concerns of potential development of Compartment Syndrome / Crush Injury Rhabdomyolysis from significant swelling, and elevated Creatine Kinase (CK). The firefighter was still hospitalized as of 7/29/2024. A Rapid Lesson Sharing (RLS) may be conducted on this incident.
