At 1433 on August 3, 2022, a brush fire was reported in Spokane County, Washington. Units from several surrounding Fire Districts including the Cheney Fire Department’s Brush Truck CB1, were dispatched to the Williams Lake Fire for a “two-acre brush fire.” While trying to access the heel of the fire, CB1 realized they actually were on a road nearer to the head of the fire. While trying to return to the road junction behind them, the vehicle entered timbered area where smoke heavily impacted the road. CB1 became stuck when it left the road surface and struck a tree. The occupants of CB1 abandoned the stuck vehicle and safely retreated to a safety zone. The vehicle was destroyed but none of the firefighters were injured.
