  • Description:

    During night shift on the Hermits Peak/Calf Canyon Fire, Santa Fe National Forest, New Mexico, an interagency hotshot crew (IHC) module was assisting with dozer line construction. A squadleader was acting as a dozer swamper by helping direct the dozer operator as a line locator. While approaching a fence at 0100, the dozer knocked over a tree which struck the squadleader. The injured firefighter was treated onscene and packaged for trasnport. He was taken to the hospital by ground ambulance as conditions were not conducive to air medevac.
