Black Fire Pulaski Cut 2022

    A hand crew member was moving through thick brush on the fire line while responding to a new start (crew was on loan from Black Fire - Gila National Forest, New Mexico - for IA response), using a pulaski to help stabilize while moving and inadvertently swung the tool into the lower leg, resulting in a laceration to the right shin (approx. 1” in length and ¾” in depth). Initial first aid provided by EMT-B-certified crew member, then patient transported to a regional medical center. Patient restricted to light duty and transport home planned for the following day.
