Description:
On July 3, 2012, at 13:45 hours while returning from the Iron Incident, Helicopter 101 (C101) had an engine power failure on short final to the Howard Forest helibase. An auto rotation was initiated by the pilot and the copter impacted the ground in a grassy field 126 feet short of landing pad 2 in a gently-sloped saddle. The impact caused both skids to collapse and the helicopter to come to rest on its belly. The pilot and seven crew members safely exited the aircraft without injuries. C101 sustained damage to the skid gear, tail boom, rotor system and other areas, undetermined until further inspection is completed.
