Description:
On July 31, 2024, two Washington DNR 802 Fire Boss Water Scoopers were assisting with the suppression of the Swawilla Fire in northeastern Washington state, near the town of Keller, WA. One of the Fire Bosses descended to the Columbia River and filled its tank. As it began to ascend, the aircraft struck a utility line that was stretched across the river. After the impact, the pilot continued his ascent and alerted Air Attack of the wire strike. All three aircraft (the two Fire Bosses and the Air Attack platform) decided to fly to Grand Coulee Airport, where the aircraft safely landed.
